Michaela Büsse’s short film energiø explores the emerging spatial figure of the energy island and its implications for marine governance. In the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, European powers have begun drafting plans to install renewable energy hubs in the North and Baltic Seas—an effort to accelerate the energy transition while pursuing greater energy autonomy. Anchored in real-world design proposals, the film embraces the speculative dimension of this infrastructural vision, drawing on the aesthetics of critical architectural practice to interrogate and imagine alternative futures.
The screening is followed by a conversation between Michaela Büsse, May Ee Wong (Utrecht University) and Orit Halpern (TU Dresden), moderated by Özgün Eylül İşcen.
